Nobody in our house loves nail day, including the humans. The trick is to make each trim small, quick and boring, and to always know where the quick is.

Pick a calm moment
After a walk or a long play session with the giggle ball is ideal. A tired pet is a patient pet.
Switch on the light
Shine the LED through a light-colored nail. The pink quick shows up as a darker shadow inside the nail. Cut well before it.
Take small bites on dark nails
On black nails the light will not show the quick. Cut a thin slice at a time and look at the cut edge. When you see a white ring with a dark center, stop.
Let the trapper work
The nail trapper catches the clippings as you go. Empty it when you finish instead of sweeping the whole room.
Reward every paw
A treat or a quick game after each paw turns nail day into a sequence of small wins.
